"The Death of an emotional Replica is a performance/installation taken place at the entrance of Openshowstudio, an art project space in the heart of Athens. The performance is part of the Vitrina Project, a public art orientated project during which 21 artists are to show their work at the entrance of the studio for 21 weeks, each artist for each week. Works are visible from the street 24hours per day, in order to be easily accessible. The installation was exhibited for a week, the last week of July, under heavy heat and humidity conditions. Every night after midnight, a 30 minutes long performance was taking place as part of the installation, where the artist was standing completely still in an awkward position, as the replica’s dead body. Passers by were weirdly surprised by the scene.
The work is inspired by the science fiction mythology of the replicas becoming emotional intelligent and thus claiming a life of their own. It is part of a wider frame of the artist research about emotional intelligence. The work is inspired by the science fiction mythology of the replicas becoming emotional intelligent and thus claiming a life of their own. It is part of a wider frame of the artist research about emotional intelligence. Vivid excessive color stands together with synthetic materials, typical products of the industrial civilization of the 20th century, consisting an almost odd (oxymoron) relationship between material and plastic result, cold plastic mean and intense emotional expressive content. Synthetic material, digital means and expressionistic color are being chosen both automatically due to my life relationship with them as well as a cerebral statement. My half hanging body is embodied in the installation, both conceptually and synthetically. The emphasis lies rather on the emotional power of the image than on the effort to stay completely still, with eyes wide open. The physical difficulty of the performance is the mean rather than the goal. Only on a second thought and as a hint, it can be interpreted as a reference and a symbolic tribute to the dead Replica’s emotional suffering."
